Births, Marriages, & Deaths data for Preston and Sutton Poyntz, copied from documents in the County Record Office, originally transcribed by the Somerset & Dorset Family Histpry Society
Census returns for Preston & Sutton Poyntz, transcribed by Bill Egerton from copies of the original Census return forms.
I have tried to be as faithful to what was actually written as possible; for example someone who wrote "Rotert" when they clearly intended "Robert", and people that can't spell "niece". In most cases the handwriting was reasonably clear, but there are instances where the handwriting was unclear or ambiguous - where I was uncertain about what word or name was written, I have resorted to other information (Gazette or BMD, for example) to choose the most likely alternative.
Please contact us if you spot any mistakes that don't reflect the original records.
Census data is released after 100 years, but I understand the 1931 Census returns were lost in a fire. No Census was conducted in 1941, but a national Register was compiled in 1939, at the start of the 2nd World War; this has been released (other than entries for people under the age of 100 at the date of release unless evidence was available of their death. I am in the process of transcribing this Register.

A variety of tax records for Preston and Sutton Poyntz, including the Tithe Survey of 1838
These documents are the result of a trawl by the village History Group of medieval sources, looking for references to Sutton Poyntz and to the families who owned Sutton Manor.
These documents contain links, in many case to an older version of the village website, which does not now exist. The links are useful in a number of cases for identifying, for example, which of the numerous Nicholas Poyntzes the text refers to.
