tonys logo30 July 2017 - A busy weekend ahead

Dear all,

Events at the Mission Hall are like First buses - suddenly three come along together, which is the case this coming weekend.

The first of the trio is the Summer Coffee Morning on Friday, 4 August in the Mission Hall between 10.30 am and noon. Entry to this world of erudition, wit and wisdom is still only £2/person, which includes the usual excellent refreshments. Also, something I didn't know until recently, is that money from these events is going to various charities. In June it was £75 to MV Freedom - the charity offering boat rides around the bay for the disabled - and this month it will be Kartability, a charity which adapts go-karts for disabled and partially sighted children and adults to experience the thrills of go kart racing. So do drop in for a most enjoyable time and all in a good cause.

The following day, Saturday 5 August, it is the turn of the  Village Vegetable Show at the Mission Hall. This opens at 9.30 am for competitors to display their wares, which costs 50p per class entered or £2 for unlimited entries. The cost to members of the public (which includes me) is £2.50 each, which includes voting rights, a cup of tea or coffee, and a piece of delicious homemade cake. Voting takes place from 10.30 to 11.30 am, and the prize-giving follows shortly afterwards plus the chance to watch the finale of the spud in a tub competition. Don't miss this - it's been known to make strong men cry. Proceeds will go to local charities.

And last, but by no means least, a chance to relax at the Alfresco Village Lunch, which starts at 1 pm the next day, Sunday 6 August. This is also at the Mission Hall, but out (I'm told that's what alfresco means; we don't use such words in the Welsh valleys) in the orchard in the glorious August sunshine. On arrival you will receive a welcome drink, followed by a main course and dessert, all for just £13/person. Bring a bottle of your own preferred tipple and unwind in an idyllic setting. A few tickets are still available from Maureen (835533), but be quick!

 Best regards

Chris
