The village has produced three Planning Documents, which are available in the following pages.

In the past, the Sutton Poyntz Society used to submit comments on relevant planning applications, but now leaves this to individual villagers. As a service, it provides, below, a list of recent Planning Applications.

Recent Planning Applications:

The Dorset Council website has a planning application search page that (in principle) allows you to find recent planning applications. Unfortunately, it is not easy to set search criteria that will find all recent applications for Sutton Poyntz. The best way we have found is to go to the Advanced Search webpage (you will need to accept the Council conditions for using the data), and enter "dt3 6" in the Address box, plus your chosen date bracket in the "Received Valid between" boxes; this will find applications for a wider geographical area but at least does not miss any relevant applications.

The following is a list of recent applications for Sutton Poyntz - you should be able to click on the supplied links to get detailed information about the applications:

 The village has produced three Planning Documents:

  • 1999 - A Village Survey, which recorded many of the features that make the village special, and the major threats that might harm the village;
    village survey 1999 001
  • 2007 - A Village Plan, which documented the views and aspirations of those living in the village, and generated an Action Plan which has guided village strategy;
    SP Village Plan cover 001
  • 2020 - Neighbourhood Plan; this is a much more formal document, which sits alongside the Local Plan and is used to guide official responses to planning applications. For details, see the next page.

The village decided in 2016 to try to write a Neighbourhhod Plan, which would allow the village to determine additional policies which would be used by the Planning Authority in deciding planning applications in Sutton Poyntz. A team of volunteers was assembled, meeting for the first time in May 2016. Various stages of consultation and report-writing followed, and a draft Neighbourhood Plan was completed in November 2018. This had to go through several stages of formal conultation and approval, and was finally "made" in May 2020.

As part of the process of writing a Neighbourhood Plan, the villagers involved produced a number of documents:

Weymouth Town Council are currently drafting a Neighbourhood Plan for Weymouth Town, whose geographic area includes Sutton Poyntz. For information see the Town Council's site. The Town Council have affirmed that they will "respect and include" the policies of the Sutton Poyntz Neighbourhood Plan.

Weymouth's Neighbourhood Plan is currently (November 2023) open for consultation. Find the Plan on the Town Council site, and feed back responses by 8th December.
